Motivation #2: Notice That You Are No Longer Where You Were
It may take a little time to get where you want to be,
but if you pause and think for a moment,
you will notice that you are no longer where you were.
Do not stop – keep going.”– Rodolfo Costa
A Common Mistake On Weight Loss Journeys
One of the common mistakes that we tend to make when it comes to weight loss, is not celebrating our progress.
When things seem slow, we find ourselves focusing on what seems to be lacking.
And this really is in the eye of the beholder. Unfortunately, many of us have had our viewpoint of what constitutes a normal pace of weight loss shaded by some of the things that have been written online about weight loss on this protocol.
And the truth is, the vast majority of women doing this diet, experience an average of about 1/2 lb per day of weight loss. When we say average, this means, that overall, you may have some 1.2 lb loss days, you may have some zero days, and that by the end, if you average out the entire round, it’s about a half pound per day. If you only have 10 lbs to lose, your average will not even be a half pound. It’s just the mechanics of how many calories our bodies, as women, use each day. You’re eating 500 calories, it takes 3500 calories to burn a lb of fat supposedly, so to lose a lb on the scale, that’s actually fat, you technically have to burn through 4000 calories if you include the 500 you’re eating each day. Most women don’t utilize nearly that many calories in a day.
So there is a logical reason behind what is reasonable to expect when it comes to the pace of results.
But what about when you don’t seem to have a logical explanation for something? You try, and you just can’t figure it out, things don’t seem to be going in the IDEAL way for you on the diet?
Ignore The Outside Chatter. Just Let Your Body Do Its Thing.
I have received many many emails from individuals who told me they were just about to give up entirely because their daily results were not matching what they had read online was normal.
I like how the quote says if you pause and think for a moment, you will notice that you are no longer where you were.
You will reach your goal if you stick to it. It may take a little time – perhaps a little more time than you had originally anticipated, depending on where you read information, what you read.
You Are Not A Person…..er, That’s Not Quite What I Mean
Our bodies are not like people that you can negotiate with (even though your body is what makes you a person! hehe) You can’t have a conversation with your body and agree on a certain amount of weight loss in a certain # of days, and have it sign on the dotted line, although that’d be great.
So really, not only is it pointless to be frustrated in that way, over the pace of your weight loss, it actually hurts you. Allowing yourself to be frustrated in that way causes people to quit, all the time.
It’s so much better to accept the pace your body goes at, which even in your own 1 body, will vary, but to accept this and recognize it in a positive light, that you ARE making progress in the right direction on a weekly basis, and as a result, you WILL get to your goal.
Think About Your Progress By the Week, Not by the Day
We tend to think in days on this diet, but I’m finding that it’s better to think about it more by our progress in a week. Because from day to day, there may be a stall, your period is here, you’re ovulating, or you had too much salt yesterday. These can all affect the scale the next day, or the next 2-3 days. But if you look at it from a weekly point of view, your weight, your inches, or both, are going down.
So think about the fact that you are no longer where you started this diet, and let that fuel you to keep going.
